Steam Trains and Engines

Steam Train Rides

Written by steamtrainengines.com

Steam trains have been undoubtedly played a significant role in the history of transportation all over the world. Many of the advancements in civilization would not have even been possible if it were not for the contributions that steam trains have made. As valuable as they have been to our collective history however, technology marches on and in its wake, a number of faster, more efficient and more practical means of locomotion have risen up. Diesel driven engines are just one of these newer innovations and it is this particular one that has sadly helped to bring about the demise of steam trains in commercial applications.

While it is true that the golden age of the steam trains has come and gone, and in fact may never return as we have known it, the ever-rising price of fossil fuels in the world market has caused many energy experts to look towards cheaper sources of power. As it turns out, steam energy may just provide this alternative, and because of this, we may yet see a return to the use of steam trains for commercial purposes in the future.

Although the return to widespread commercial use hasn’t happened yet, and may not happen for a while, steam trains are already being used in a number of leisure attractions in many places in the country. A number of tours have cropped up in recent years that are primarily based on steam train rides. Not only is this a great way to see the surrounding countryside, the experience itself of being on a historical steam train ride adds a sense of realism and genuineness to the experience that is simply not possible on any other means of transport.

Some of the more popular steam train rides that you can enjoy are the ones offered by the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad & Museum, the Frisco Silver Dollar Line Steam Train and the Essex Steam Train ride. They are all highly recommended if you want an experience that you won’t soon forget.

Imagine traveling through a gorgeous countryside that has remained largely unchanged since the glorious heyday of the railroad, onboard an authentic recreation of a classic steam train. Very few tours can compare with that complete and total sense of going back in time that steam train rides can provide. It not only serves as a reminder for how things were during a simpler time in the past, but also a sign of how things could be in the future.
